Electrotherapy treatment mainly consists of Ultrasound, TENS or Interferential Therapy:
Ultrasound treatment is used to promote the natural healing process following injury. More specifically, the treatment assists in reducing muscle tension, swelling and spasm. This is achieved through means of high frequency sound waves which are absorbed by the tissues. Ultrasound can be applied to numerous structures, but mainly muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Both TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) and Interferential Therapy are methods of pain relief. They can be used in conjunction with other treatment options provided to ensure that minimum pain is felt as treatment progresses.
Electrotherapy itself can be used to treat most types of musculoskeletal injury. We can offer this type of treatment at the majority of our clinics.
